Sam Jackson English, b. 1977
Born 1977, Sam Jackson is an English portraitist holding a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) at Middlesex University and a Post-Graduate Diploma of Fine Art at the Royal Academy. Bringing motifs of flesh and the underlying proclivities, Jackson manifests the physical head on thick pigmentry, as Sacha Craddock names this as 'layers of interference.' He showcased his work not only nation-wide, but also overseas including Frankfurt, New York, Paris and Rome.
Jackson's paintings stretches the limits of portraiture. It prompts beyond the surface, carried by his ouvere illuminating the mask into windows. Rather imposing a descriptive approach portraying what is 'seen,' he represents the 'unseen' through painting, where one is able to finally rebirth and embrace the held-back. Jackson utilises multimedia (oil, ink, spray paint etc.) and text working with pop culture, literature and lyrics to imbue the story behind the subject.
