To celebrate the opening of our new London gallery on Newman Street, Pontone Gallery is delighted to present a curated exhibition of three distinguished artists. Featuring paintings by Henry Jabbour and Matteo Massagrande and photographs by Lee Jeonglok, the Pontone Gallery Opening Exhibition showcases a selection of works that underscore the combined influences of light, colour and the passage of time on the human psyche.

Born in 1959 in Padua, Italy, Matteo Massagrande is a painter steeped in the history and tradition of figurative representation. A highly accomplished painter of empty domestic interiors, his sumptuously-rendered spaces evoke a powerful sense of human presence and the passage of time.

This is an exhibition of six painters who explore and exploit process. Common to all is an obsessive interest in the materiality of paint and the technique of painting. Each presents the viewer with a rich and seductive surface. Each articulates their particular vision.

Matteo Massagrande’s new paintings feature his characteristic use of subtly-manipulated perspective. His is a world of mysterious vistas and abandoned interiors, filled with light and atmosphere. There is a new emphasis on specific sites and landscapes, particularly Venice, New York and Tuscany. This exhibition has something of the flavour of a modern- day ‘Grand Tour’. Untypically, in a few works, figures are present. An urban crowd populates the meticulously-defined cityscapes of Venice and New York, distinctly ephemeral against the lucid solidity of the architecture.

After another outstanding year at Art Miami 2018, Pontone Gallery is delighted to present a further opportunity to enjoy works by our artists who achieved such great success there.
In January we will present a Miami to London collection in the gallery and online, including works by Emil Alzamora, Hwang Seontae, Mari Kim, Lee Leenam, Malcolm Liepke, Matteo Massagrande and Jeff Robb.

Matteo Massagrande, a native of Padua, has become both an outstanding contemporary Italian painter, and a seminal artist of the figurative, representational movement in European painting. His works are exhibited together with the art of such masters as Lopez Garcia, David Hockney and Vincent van Gogh.
