Park Jieun: Journeys (Pt 1)

This balance between concealment and revelation is the core of Park’s practice. Trained in both Fine Art and Advertising Design at Konkuk University, and celebrated with awards from the Seoul Digital Institute, Kyung-In, and Seoul Metro National Conference, Park draws on the discipline of traditional Korean and Chinese ink painting while creating work that speaks to contemporary sensibilities. Her process is rooted in duality: East and West, ancient and modern, gestural abstraction and meticulous observation.

Born from her fascination with travel, the works act as personal cartographies. They are not straightforward portraits of place, but emotional maps - spaces where solitude and joy coexist, where the viewer can linger as a guest in another culture. The cityscapes are rendered in muted tones so they never overpower the brushstroke; they remain invitations rather than declarations, allowing each viewer to bring their own stories to the scene.

By layering traditional ink techniques with images of iconic global cities, Park creates a visual dialogue across geography and time. These paintings are as much about her own journeys - physical, cultural, and artistic - as they are about the destinations themselves. They ask us to look twice, and to see that the world’s greatest places might be waiting quietly inside the sweep of a single brush.
