This summer Pontone Gallery mounts an exhibition of painters who are all obsessed with the materiality of their medium, which they each manipulate with a distinct and intense singularity.

Malcolm Liepke’s paintings assert his skilful and graphic iterations of human flesh in all its forensic intimacy. His gestural and fluent handling emphasises the delicate, bruised tones of his male and female models, framed by a bright and acidic variety of rich colour.

Timothy Spall elicits a profound spiritual response with a dark and brooding landscape that contains a discrete, but explicit, description of the crucifixion at Golgotha. Misty veils of charcoal greys are penetrated by shafts of sulphurous sunlight to reveal a tragic scene, glimpsed from afar but unmistakable.

Richard Harrison deploys vigorous and expressive passages of highly worked paint. Clots, clumps, streaks and sticky accretions are distressed and agitated by the artist’s urgent hand, eager to fashion an image of primal landscape from a chaos of turbid material.

Henry Jabbour explores a rich and sumptuous palette of shimmering primary hues. Glistening oil paint is freely applied in thick, creamy skeins and slicks against saturated, liquid glazes. Vestigial romantic figures hover in this world of subtle, painterly abstraction.

Pontone Gallery USA is delighted to present a collection of paintings by acclaimed American artist Malcolm Liepke. Including a selection of works painted between 2015 and 2021, this exhibition highlights quintessential elements featured in his figurative works.

Pontone Gallery presents a special exhibition in Augusta, Georgia. This is an exhibition of five painters, who explore and exploit process. Common to all is an obsessive interest in the materiality of paint and the technique of painting. Each presents the viewer with a rich and seductive surface. Each articulates their particular vision.

Pontone Gallery is excited to present this much-anticipated exhibition of new paintings by acclaimed American artist, Malcolm Liepke. Above all, a painter of the body, he works with a cast of distinctively attractive models to make images of languorous and sensual appeal. His graphically accomplished and bravura handling of paint and colour express this world, making allusive reference to icons of popular culture, the pin-up and the shiny surfaces of the mediated image, which are often undisguised sources of inspiration for his compositions.

After another outstanding year at Art Miami 2018, Pontone Gallery is delighted to present a further opportunity to enjoy works by our artists who achieved such great success there.

American artist, Malcolm Liepke was born in 1953 and raised in Minneapolis. He is an experienced, mid-career painter who has exhibited all over the world; his work is represented in numerous private and public collections. Continuing a fruitful professional relationship, Pontone Gallery is proud to present his new paintings, which further investigate and articulate his sensuous images of male and female models.

Malcolm Liepke is a painter primarily of women, especially of a certain kind, who appear to be glamorous inhabitants of the film, stage and fashion world. Versed in the art of performance and self-projection, they are used to being looked at and return the viewers’ gaze sometimes provocatively, with insolence or innocently.
